Musical growing pains and how to help
Greetings Parents and Guardians who have now been in the musical trenches with students for two weeks, hearing squeaks, squawks, and all kinds of loud noises as they start on the journey of learning to play music. Everyone finally has an instrument and a band book and are all beginning to make sounds!
If your student is having difficulties producing a sound and/or working with their instrument, keep encouraging them and have them follow along with the video tutorials by Dr. Glynn at http://basicband.info/ where the he repeats to students:
YOU ARE CREATIVE
YOU ARE A MUSICIAN
YOU CAN DO THIS
Students should now be practicing 10-20 minutes daily and keeping track in their practice logs. They must be playing along with the tracks on myeelibrary.com to ensure that they are doing it correctly. Simply use the student activation code or ISBN located in the cover of their Essential Elements book to access the MP3 files.
Lastly, our first event is happening in 2 weeks!
BAND RETREAT: October 14th 9:00AM-2:00PM at Rick Hansen Secondary School.
For this event we need at least 10 parent volunteers to help with food and running of stations. We will have lunch provided as well as clinicians for the students. I'm expecting as many students as possible as this is one of the few opportunities for each band to play as one ensemble/group at the same time. Send me an email at email@example.com for more information or to let me know if you can volunteer for the event. Field-trip forms will be going home on Monday and Tuesday. It is going to be a fantastic event!
