We are finally moved back into the band room with it's new paint job!
Students are making their first sounds and are starting on the long and exciting/arduous journey to creating music.
Things to note:
T-shirt orders are due Tuesday Oct. 1st
Band Picture day is November 8 and students need to wear their uniform to school.
Band retreat day is Thursday Nov. 21st
This week, student should be taking their instruments home to practice and double checking that they have all of the supplies necessary to take good care of their instruments.
Grade 6 homework includes:
Flutes: creating 3 different sounds on the head joint and lining up their fingers in the correct spot.
Clarinets: setting up the mouthpiece and barrel and playing an F# when tuned with no puffy cheeks, and putting it all together and covering all of the holes on their instrument one at a time to play (right hand on the bottom, left on the top).
Trumpets/Trombones/Baritones: Practicing letting the air flow through the center of the mouthpiece cleanly and easily as well as making high, medium, and low sounds with each different slide position. It should not look like the picture above... (ask your student why not)
Percussion: Practicing setting up their equipment at waist height, holding the sticks accurately and getting multiple bounces on each stroke with both hands.
Saxophones: Putting together the neck and mouthpiece and creating a good sound with space behind the teeth and no puffy cheeks, as well as pushing down the 6 buttons and holding them down to create a sound that is as low as possible.
Double/Electric Basses: Practice playing through the frets/positions using the first, second, third, and third/fourth finger combo on each string.
Our Grade 7/8 Band trip has been confirmed that we will indeed be going to VICTORIA! on April 17-19th (Friday to Sunday). The cost will remain under $350 total. Information will be sent out next week and the first $100 deposit to reserve your spot before Oct. 30th will be put up on School Cash Online.
There is only room for 50 students and 5 chaperones. If parent/guardians would like to come and watch the performance separately, let us know as the more the merrier!
Our annual pumpkin fundraiser will also be starting next week.
We are needing some more fundraising ideas! (and a carpet cleaner...)
