Last night was our Band Parent Orientation Night. The Learning Commons was jam packed and we completely ran out of chairs! It was neat to see the faces of the parents and guardians of this year's students and to see the commitment that each of you has to their success.
Topics that were covered included:
- This year's calendar: which is attached below.
- Rentals: which can be purchased from Kings Music or Long and McQuade (simply click the link for more information, view the attached documents, or send me an email for details on our limited stock of school rentals)
- The Cantando Whistler Music Festival: for grades 7-8, for which we will need parent volunteers to help fund-raise and come as chaperones! Stay tuned for more information.
- What parents can do to help their students practice at home: which includes keeping track of their practice charts, encouraging them when it gets tough, and directing them to the for students section on the website for accompaniment tracks, metronomes, and videos on how to play and put together your instrument.
It has been a chaotic week with over 100 students dropping registration forms off and testing out instruments. The band room is absolutely buzzing from the minute it opens until the minute it closes each day. Many of the students will be bringing home plastic cups to practice with this weekend and some have already had their first quiz! Based off the excitement I have seen so far and the students I have had the opportunity to meet, it is going to be a great year :)
